Oakey State High School is a registered training organisation and can offer our students access to quality VET programs which (with the required effort) result in the student achieving a nationally recognised qualification.

Vocational Education and Training is for students who want to develop work-related knowledge and skills. At Oakey State High School it is offered in a number of different ways including:

  1. Stand-alone VET courses delivered by the school with no impact on VETiS funding (see No 3). Currently Oakey State High School delivers:
    • Certificate II in Hospitality (SIT20316)
  2. School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) which allow students to work for an employer and train towards a recognised qualification under contract of training while completing their school studies. If the SAT is not completed by the end of Year 12, students may convert to a full-time or part-time traineeship/apprenticeship.
  3. Certain qualifications are provided through outside providers. These qualifications use the students VETiS funding. Students are entitled to one VETiS funded qualification delivered by an outside provider (external Registered Training Organisation; RTO). Some external training providers may offer second chance funding for students who have already used their VETiS funding. Courses offered (subject to sufficient numbers) include:
