Statement of Beliefs and Values
Our school values guide our decision making, are central to our conversations about how we see our community operating and the policies and practices we follow. The school believes that the student is the focus of the educational process, and that the efforts of the total school community should be directed to the betterment of students and their learning outcomes.
They are:
-
Respect: Respect for self and others, regardless of difference or diversity.
-
Excellence: Setting goals and working towards achieving our best.
-
Participation: Actively engaging in learning and living.
-
Personality: Being somebody who can be relied on.
-
Safety: Thinking and behaving safely for self and others.
Our students and staff know these values and use them as a guide in their everyday school lives.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy encompasses supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of our students. It is underpinned by positive, productive relationships, high expectations, a seamless curriculum and quality teaching that is explicit and engaging. We aim to nurture self‐belief, increase opportunities and enhance learning outcomes for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students, instilling in them a love of learning.
We have purposely worked at developing school culture in ways that will further engage each student in a safe environment. Our school prides itself on being a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) School. The looking, thinking, and acting we encourage, is about increasing a culture of educational engagement by promoting:
- a culture that is welcoming
- a culture in which the conditions for learning are ever-present
- a culture in which we examine how our behaviours affect us, others, and our world
- a culture in which there is a shared belief that we are a part of something special and great; and
- a culture in which the language creates and fosters our school values of respect, excellence, participation, personality, and safety.
At Oakey State High School, we are committed to the following
principles:
- All staff members in our school consider their job to make every student, parent, and visitor feel noticed, welcomed, and valued.
- Our school rules and values are the tools for teaching students to become the moral and ethical citizens we expect them to be.
- Students tell a story about themselves that is one of possibility and potential, and perform in ways that are consistent with that belief.
- Students go beyond the minimum needed to get by, to discover what they are capable of achieving.
- Our school is the best place to teach, the best place to learn and the best place to work.
Our
Explicit Improvement Agenda Priorities are:
- Engaged student attendance with a goal that students will be present 92% of time.
- Students exhibit our school values and Positive Behaviour for Learning on a daily basis.
- The Australian Curriculum and Senior Syllabuses are implemented with fidelity.
