The Honourable Justice—Melanie Hindman
The Honourable Justice Melanie Hindman attended Oakey High for Grades 11-12 in 1992-1993. A self-proclaimed math/science nerd at school, Melanie participated in all available math/science competitions. She was Head of the Student Environmental Council, a TIP Leader to incoming High School Students and was the school & regional winner of Lions Youth of the Year.
After School Melanie went on to complete articles of clerkship at a small Brisbane City law firm, she worked as a solicitor at a national law firm and in 2003 went to the private Queensland Bar to practice as a Barrister. In 2017 Melanie was appointed as Queen's Counsel. She went on to practice in areas of commercial litigation with a particular focus on building and construction litigation.
In 2022 she was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland in the trial division.
The Supreme Court of Queensland is the highest court in Queensland and hears the most serious of criminal cases, including murder, manslaughter and serious drug offences as well as civil matters involving amounts over $750, 000.
Melanie is still a big supporter of Oakey High sponsoring the 'AJ Hindman Women in Stem' Award each year at our Annual Awards Night.
Craig Teevan
Craig Teevan attended Oakey High from 1982-1986. During his high schooling years Craig achieved great success excelling in sport mostly in the field of Rugby League. His sporting achievements whilst attending Oakey High was making the Queensland Schoolboys Rugby League U15 and Opens teams, Australian Open Schoolboys Team in 1986, Queensland Touch Football Team U15, Winner of the Queensland Athletics 400 metre event for U15 and Darling Downs Representative for swimming. Craig says his fondest memories from school was the mate ships he formed, the High School Socials and Fun Fair’s.
Post school Craig was signed to play for the Brisbane Broncos in 1988 whilst he was studying to be a teacher. He went on to teach for three years, teaching in Brisbane for two of those years and one year in Sydney whilst playing for the Sharks and Manly. In 1995 he became a fulltime professional sports athlete for four years. Playing for South Queensland Crushers from 1995-1997 which saw him Captained the side in 1997. Craig played for Queensland in the State of Origin series in 1995 playing all three games in a clean sweep of the series. He finished his career with the Gold Coast Chargers having played 103 NRL games in total. After retiring Craig became the CEO of the Ipswich Jets in the QRL for seven years. He then took a career path change and went into property development for ten years developing three medium size apartment projects on the Sunshine Coast and ten small townhouse unit projects in Toowoomba.
Craig shares four children with his wife and now spends his time between running International Legends of League events throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea all whilst running his own consultancy business.
Dr Luke Danaher
Dr Luke Danaher attended Oakey High from 1993-1997. He has fond memories from his time at Oakey High and is still in contact with a lot of his old school friends. In fact, Dr Danaher still has family members that attend the school to this day. Whilst at school Dr Danaher was Vice School Captain and Lions Youth of the Year in 1997 for his presentation on the Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccine. He was quite the competition whizz having competed in a number of math competitions and debating competitions against Toowoomba Private Schools.
Dr Danaher's fondest memories of High School include the Year 12 Leadership Camp and science classes with Mr Erbacher and Mr “Macca" Mackenzie who interspersed life advice with science education. Like a lot of people looking back at school he also enjoyed lunchtimes with friends, School Socials, Blue Light Discos and trips to the movies.
After graduating in 1997 Dr Danaher studied Radiography at QUT in Brisbane for three years followed by a professional development year on the Sunshine Coast. He moved to the UK for two years where he worked as a Radiographer and then returned to Brisbane to study Medicine for four years at UQ. Prior to undertaking five years of specialist training in Radiology at the PAH and another one-year training in Interventional Radiography he completed a brief working period on Christmas Island. Dr Danaher has been an Intern, Resident Doctor and Radiology Research Doctor at the RBWH and worked in many hospitals across Queensland. Dr Danaher is currently the Chief Radiologist for I-MED QLD/NT and works fulltime for them in Brisbane and Regional Queensland as well as well as sits on the national clinical, billing and project steering committee for I-MED. Dr Danaher resides in Brisbane with his partner and dog Harry. When not travelling for work he enjoys catching up with friends, family and travelling.
