Extra-curricular

A wide variety of extra-curricular activities that foster lifelong social skills including self-discipline, confidence, commitment, teamwork and community relationships are available to students. We encourage them to become involved in the wider life of the school outside the classroom.
 

Some of the activities students can choose to participate in at Oakey State High School are:

  • Excursions and trips
  • School arts productions and exhibitions
  • Public speaking
  • Student Council
  • International Visitors
  • Community Programs
  • Instrumental Music Program
  • School committees
  • Cadets
  • Subject-specific Competitions
  • Sporting activities – local, regional, state-based and national competitions.
 
The following activities and functions are arranged for the students’ interest and enjoyment through the year.
 
 
This program covers student welfare, personal development and careers and occurs once a week in roll class groups.  In Term 4 all students in Year 11 will participate in a leadership program during this time.

Socials 

A Year 11 Social Committee is responsible for organising school socials that are held in the Assembly Hall under teacher supervision from 6.00pm till 9.00pm, once per term. 
 
Students absent on the day of a social, have outstanding assessment or detention, and whose behaviour record shows loss of good standing will not be allowed entry to school socials. 

Awards Night

The annual school Awards Night will be held early in November at the Oakey Cultural Centre.  Academic, Cultural, Special and Sporting Awards are presented to students who have achieved exceptional standards in each of these areas.

Graduation Dinner

A farewell function for the graduating Year 12 students and their parents and teachers is organised each year by a committee formed from Year 12 students and a teacher. Participation in this event is dependent on 90% attendance or more, conduct at school, completion of assessment and payment of fees.
