Senior school

Years 10, 11 and 12 begin to refine student focus onto successful pathways to industry, further education or employment. 

Year 10 Curriculum Overview
Year 10 is designed as a transition year, and students are introduced to increasing complexity and senior assessment criteria.

Core Subjects

  3 lessons per week:

  • English
  • Advanced or Core Mathematics
  • Science

  2 lessons per week:

  • Health & Physical Education
  • Humanities

  1 lesson per week:

  • Care & Careers Program


Electives

    Choose 2 - each are 3 lessons per week

Year 11​ & 12 Curriculum Overview
At Oakey State High School, Senior Students are able to select "multiple pathways" to their chosen career. 
This may include:
 
Qualification for Tertiary Entrance
  • Study at least 5 Authority subjects
Training & Employment
  • Study any combination of Authority, Authority Registered and Vocational Educational & Training subjects
  • Select a School-based Traineeship or Apprenticeship. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT) is a legally binding contract of training and employment enabling students to work towards a vocational qualification whilst studying for their Senior Certificate and undertaking paid work.

Notes:

  1.  Students must study; English or English Communication and Mathematics A, Mathematics B or Prevocational Mathematics
  2. Students may elect to study an alternate subject not offered by Oakey State High School through the Brisbane School of Distance Education (e.g. Economics, Legal Studies, Mathematics C etc.).
  3. All students MUST be in full attendance up to and including the last day of school in term 4 (set by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority) to be eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education.
