Special Education Program

Our aim is to empower our students with the skills and knowledge to become successful citizens, achieve gainful employment and be skilled all-round.
Our Special Education Program (SEP) is staffed by special education teachers who have a solid knowledge foundation of all the diagnosed disabilities recognised by Education Queensland. SEP teaching staff are supported by our experienced SEP Teacher Aides.
Affiliated to the SEP are Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVTs) to assist, adjust and amend the curriculum and physical environment of the school, in close consultation with all stake holders to cater for students with special needs. These specialist staff work closely with all teaching staff to engage students in education.
Program delivery is flexible and students can access a full mainstream program or core subjects at a lower year level.  Core subjects accessing the Australian Curriculum can be delivered at the child’s developmental level in English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography.  These adjusted programs are delivered in a smaller class setting.  All students access mainstream elective subjects with individualised support provisions.
Students can also participate in a number of vocational education, work experience and community based learning programs.  These programs aim for students to acquire work and life skills in a real-life context.  It also aims to develop networks and contacts within the school and the wider community to ensure successful transition into the community upon graduation.
We strongly believe in differentiation in our pedagogies as we believe all students learn differently and therefore need to be catered for differently.
