Students honoured on Australia Day

On January 26 three Oakey High students, and one of our teachers received Australia Day Awards around the region for contribution to their respective communities, while another was acknowledged for his sporting achievements.

Grace Fill (pictured left) was named Rosalie Young Citizen of the Year at Goombungee, while Jolie Williamson (pictured below with Jade Kennedy) was awarded the Oakey District Young Citizen Award in Oakey. Both of these Oakey graduates were  Vice Captains here in 2018.

They are both valuable members of their respective communities and have been exemplary role models throughout their secondary education and have made significant contributions to our school community.

Jade Kennedy is in Year 8, and was awarded the Young Citizen of the Year Award for the entire Toowoomba Region. Jade’s Guiding involvement, and other community service led to her successful nomination, and we congratulate Jade on this significant achievement.

Kaleb Stanton is a talented sportsman – from Rugby League and cricket, to javelin and discus - he has competed at various levels in a range of sports. Kaleb was named Junior Sportsman of the Year in Oakey District.

Mrs Jessamyn Douglas, a valued member of our teaching staff, received the Toowoomba Young Citizen of the Year award. Mrs Douglas is a keen Girl Guide leader in Toowoomba and enjoys working with young people.

Congratulations to all of our recipients. We are very proud of your achievements.
